Traffic controllers who control traffic at Kugbo along Mararaba-Nyanya highway, Abuja have suffered harassment in the hands of Civil Defence officers on Tuesday evening.
The traffic controllers who were directing vehicles encountered harassment from civil defence officers who loaded themselves in a coaster bus and insisted to take an illegal route in which the traffic controllers tried to prevent them which led to harassment from civil defence officers.
The civil defence officers beat the traffic controllers up, smashed their phones and also sprayed teargas in the eyes of one of them.
The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has instructed that investigations should be made with immediate effect while apologizing for such harassment.
"The investigation is ongoing on the matter, the CG has temporarily suspended the officers involved, seized their vehicle, and detained the driver, and assured us that everything humanly possible would be done to ensure that justice prevails in the case," said Muhammadu, according to a statement posted by Attah on his Facebook page.
"The Commandant General, therefore, apologies to management and men of VIO and assured them of the Corps maximum cooperation and support in discharging their constitutional duties."
