Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto state governor has urged the instantaneous removal of Lauretta Onochie as a nominated commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Onochie and some others werre nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari, of which was sent to the Senate during the week for confirmation, the nomination was said to have caused a lot of disagreements, with many Nigerians kicking against the appointment.
Governor Tambuwal had said that Buhari should remove Onochie, who is currently serving as an aide to Buhari. Governor Tambuwal made the request during the swearing-in of members of the State Independent Electoral Commission at the Government House on Wednesday.
Tambuwal stated that the removal is in the best interest of the country’s electoral system, he noted that Buhari’s selection of Onochie is not right for the country’s democracy as the nominee is a well-known partisan individual.
Governor Tambuwal further requested that the upper legislative chamber should refuse her nomination if President Buhari fails to withdraw her nomination.
